Hauntings and Legends
Colonial Inn : By Kristen Perkins
In the historic town of Concord, Massachusetts, lies the beautiful Colonial Inn. Sitting in the middle of Concord, the inn provides beautiful accommodations, an in-house restaurant, and a possible ghostly visitor or two. The legends attached to the Colonial Inn can all be traced back to the Revolutionary War. Located not far from the North Bridge, where the “shot heard round the world” was fired, the Colonial Inn was home to a doctor who treated soldiers who were injured in nearby battles. Injured soldiers were operated on and treated in what is now room 24 in the inn. There are many stories attached to the Inn, but here we will be sharing two accounts of experiences Kristen Perkins had while investigating the building in 2004.
That night, the investigation was arranged by Haunted Happenings, a team out of Framingham, Massachusetts. Our guest was Jeff Belanger, who was attending that night to do research for an upcoming book. We were able to secure room 24 for our investigation that night, and it is in that room where the two experiences occurred. First, during an EVP session, our investigators made note of a baby crying nearby, so when reviewing audio, we could be reminded that there was a baby in the inn who was fussy and making noise. During our next break, the front desk staff asked how our investigation was going, and we expressed concern that the baby was going to compromise our audio. The hotel staff double checked reservations and assured as that there were no infants or small children staying in the inn that night.
The second anomalous event was an EVP. During our EVP session, Kristen asked the question, “Are you happy?” The EVP that was recovered during evidence review was a slow female voice responding with, “I am happy.” Kristen really hadn’t planned to ask the question, it simply popped into her head, so she asked. This is supports the idea that investigators should ask questions that they may not have planned to ask, but that suddenly cross their minds. What if these questions are being impressed upon us by someone unseen? The only way to know is to ask.
The inn is beautiful and historic, so staying there will be a treat whether you have experiences or not. However, if you manage to reserve room 24, maybe consider asking about the happiness of any unseen occupants. I hope, whoever she is, she remains as happy as she was on that evening.
